On 4 April 2025, Stonebridge Legal participated as a partner in a session on financing investment projects at the Pravo.ru Banking and Finance Law, and Capital Markets: Legal Issues conference.
The increase in the key rate and tightening of monetary policy is forcing borrowers, lenders and intermediaries to look for more comfortable financial instruments. In addition to traditional instruments (bonds, preferred shares, loans), structured products that allow for a flexible approach to changes in borrowers’ incomes and convertible instruments are appearing on the market more frequently. There is also a renewed interest in securitisation transactions.
During the session, the speakers discussed financing investment projects in a challenging environment. They considered regulatory and economic barriers that arise when financing investment projects during periods of geopolitical and economic instability. They also discussed the search for new financial instruments and combining them for project financing.
In addition, the speakers discussed methods of risk assessment and their impact on project implementation, as well as the impact of market uncertainty and instability on the financial sustainability of projects. Methods of assessing the cost and payback of projects and prospects of a return on investment at the initial stage were also considered.
The discussion also touched upon issues related to levels of trust and the nature of different types of investors, including banks, sovereign and investment funds, business angels and private investors. The speakers discussed competition for financing and factors determining success in this competition. A separate issue was infrastructure financing as a high-risk area and the specifics of accounting for its implementation.
We would like to thank all those involved in the conference for their participation and the organiser for the opportunity to be part of the event.
